The story behind the name Samakya is somewhat happenstance. We ended up choosing to name our “dream’ after a Hindi name/word, Samakhya – [sam-ā-khyā] meaning “to count, reckon”, “to relate, tell”, “to declare, proclaim, “to sum up, add together.” It is also said to mean “ambitious and driven.” The name also has a more popular meaning which is “fame” and “celebrity” – this can’t hurt when Samakya Cabins become the celebrity destination of midwest and by celebrity – I mean a popular one.
We came across the name when we started doing a word play by using the names of our kids Samantha and Kyan. After scrolling through a moon meaning, the number of letters, and the meaning of each letter, we thought that it had a strong meaning and remained relevant to the names of our children. Samakya (without an “h”) was a natural choice for our “pipe dream” and something meaningful for our kids and us. It just so happens to be a special name with a special meaning.
Prior to Samakya Cabins, we explored so many different options like “Cabins in the Bog”, “Driftless Bog”, “Confluence Cabins”, “Big River, Small Cabins”, “Sand Road Cabins”, and Chris’ runner up “Above the Bog.”
Next week – our first ever visit to “Tractor Supply” and a stop to shop for waders at “Fleet Farm.” This is so we can meet the local beaver family to ensure an unobstructed flow within the bog (a handy tip recommended by the previous owner).
